                               Alaska and Beyond

Welcome to my wanderings in Alaska and abroad viewed thru my photography. Adventure travel is the common thread in my images. I am best inspired by life on the road. My galleries mostly highlight distant journeys abroad exploring new and alternate cultural perspectives. The "Alaska Backyard" gallery ventures closer to home among the natural beauty and wildlife of the "last frontier" state.

Wandering abroad my course develops as I go, traveling by bus, motorbike, bike, foot, kayak, boat and train to most fully experience local culture. Home in Alaska, I skiing joins the list with the driving and flying it takes to get most places here and away.

I always strive to get a step further as traveler more than tourist, moving beyond the "Lonely Planet". The offbeat entices me far more than attractions overwhelmed by popularity. My travel is relatively light and cheap, kind of upscale downscale among the backpacking crowd where it’s easier to be more a part of "there'. With no ultimate destination, classically the journey itself is my goal.

Until 2005 I’d been bartender, wildlife biologist, bond salesman, and investment manager. My travels cranked up in 2003 with a trip to Haiti. I’ve since been to Trinidad-Tobago, France (bicycling), Indonesia (Bali and Sulawesi), Hong Kong, Costa Rica, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Malaysia. I'd been previously throughout the US and to Canada, Mexico, Europe, but the developing world now inspires me most. Southeast Asia has my current interest. Elsewhere always beckons.

Images in the galleries highlight my most recent trips, with local color and travel detail in short narrative captions. I'll add more images and new trips when I find time apart from all the traveling.

If you most like concentrating in the photography itself, I suggest choosing within any gallery the "Smugmug" style in the drop down menu just beneath the  p h o t o g r a p h i e  i r i e  sunset banner up top. When you click on the bigger pic on the right it gets bigger still, to fill the whole frame. Then use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move back and forth among the images.

If you wish to dwell a bit more on the further information in the captioned narrative for each image, I suggest the "Journal" style in that same drop down window under the p h o t o g r a p h i e i r i e sunset banner.

Where next? The list still grows. For more places been, all the more to go. Myanmar, India and Nepal have been in planning, but local events shaped their delay for a latter day. I spent much of 2008 and now 2009 back in Thailand, Malaysia and Laos. Further, soon...

Stay tuned and join my future journeys. Email me to help shape my travel. Tell me what not to miss.

Thanks for coming.
